PE & Sport Premium
Each year the school receives a PE & Sport Premium grant from the DFE. This is spent to support the participation of pupils in a range of sport and physical education activity, and we publish a report to explain how much has been spent, what it has been spent on, and how this has helped to develop sport and PE for pupils at Lowe's Wong Infant School.
There are 5 priority improvement areas identified in the grant conditions:
- Increasing confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sporting activities, prioritising CPD and training where needed.
- Increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sporting activities.
- Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement.
- Offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils, and ensure equal access to sport for boys and girls.
- Increasing participation in competitive sport.
Last academic year, we used our PE & Sport Premium grant to purchase a range of PE and physical play equipment. PE lessons were enhanced with new resources such as mini-football goals, a variety of games equipment including balls, bibs and whistles and a portable electronic speaker for dance. We also increased children's physical activity at break and lunchtimes by purchasing new resources such as the Agility, Balance & Co-ordination set and new basketball hoops. Children's participation in organised sport and physical activity was increased by providing additional extra-curricular activities such as the "Little Lionesses" football club and engagement with the Play Leaders programme. Individual children received support through bespoke mentoring delivered in partnership with the Canoville "Brighter Futures" programme.
This academic year, our priority is to increase staff confidence and skills. We will be introducing a new scheme of work for PE lessons, and delivering staff training on the teaching of PE. We will be continuing to provide a variety of extra-curricular opportunities for all children, and will also further enhance the equipment we have in school for PE and physical activity.
